Drinkin' in the appreciation

It's time to start paying for my own drinks again. Not gonna lie - being an American here sometimes has perks. Yep - I know that it isn't ethical to milk it too much...but sometimes it's so stinkin' tempting!

The US is considered to be the midwife of sorts to the birthing of Kosova. After the US acknowledged the new nation (the 4th to do so - the first being Afghanistan of all places), it was yet another reason for people to be gung-ho U.S.A. For well over a week, every time I went into coffeebars that I occasionally frequent, some people would say (in English and in shqip), "Thank you, America!" For awhile, I'd retort, "Er...uh...and ya' better thank Afghanistan, too...and Belgium...and..." Now, after making very well sure that people know it had absolutely nothing to do with me and that my purpose for being here is strictly a-political, I bow my head humbly and say, "You're welcome; don't mention it." And then I get free drinks. And then a few more free drinks.

I went out a lot the last two weeks. Now I better start paying my own tab - enough is enough (sigh).
