I received many text and written messages on my birthday. Most of them were in shqip and basically said: “Congratulations on your birthday. May you have love, success, and health. May you be 100 years (or may you have 100 more years?)…” Some, however, were – um – messages that I want to remember for a long time. For instance:
“You are strong like a power. You are fast like a wind. With free love always you’re happy and feel yourself like angel. Happy B’day. With all my respect…” (a kid in the youth)
“I wish you a day as special as you are!” aw shucks :) (from a high school girl)
“To listen and share smile and care…I’m lucky to have you by my side always. Happy b’day to a friend who’s really special to me.” (another kid in the youth)
“In 11 February 1983 God made a good thing, and one of them was you. So happy birthday.”
…and the funniest…
“Psalms 67.1. Epilogue: The wife of noble character…Prov. 31.10c” (from a kid i've known since I arrived who is now learning English) –What?! I don’t get the epilogue, but that was the most I laughed all week.
(note to self – maybe it’s better for me to text in English because maybe this is what I sound like to them in their language! But maybe they giggle as much as I do).
