a crack-up day

Yesterday kind of cracked me up. I don’t exactly know why – but everything was hitting my what-a-hoot bone.

It started with my trot-jog. Because the ground was frozen, I decided to change my normal route and go through a nearby village and through the frozen cesspool at the end of the road. Once through the muck, it’s gorgeous, open, and so peaceful. The only times I can go there is when there are drought conditions and it’s all dried up or when it’s frozen. Well, it was frozen when I went out…but it thawed when I was coming back. My shoes got so heavy with muck that I had to stop several times and scrape it off. Gross but funny.

This was also my week to clean the fellowship meeting room – and my fellow cleaner is a 10-year-old sweet kid. She and her friends have competitions to see who can kiss me the most. Golly, all that lovin’ could be redirected to change the course of history in this part of the world. Anyhoo, every few minutes this girl would say, “Oj Robertë...” …can I wipe off each book on the shelves…can I pick lint off the chairs…can I organize stacks of papers…can I think of any other possible thing to do to stay and clean? (yep, I think she’s a little touched in the head). Sweet and funny.

Then I had the privilege of accompanying a youth gal/friend to her hair appointment for her equivalent of a senior prom (only with chic/glamour instead of poofy gowns). We sat in a cold, dark room (no electricity) for an hour, and she absolutely hated the end result. So I was able to be present for consolation during a big hair crisis (tears, 9 girls shouting at each other, dramadramadrama). [Truthfully – when the hairdresser finished with her, she looked like the 4th member of the Temptations – but who am I to tell her that?]. I had said earlier that I’d stay until she left. Her event started at 8pm so I made a few assumptions…

She insisted on waiting until the electricity came back on (9pm) to fix her hair. So I stayed while 2 friends did her make up (another hour), a cousin fitted her with jewelry, and her sisters and parents giggled and jabbered. It was getting even later, and I was very sleepy so I decided just to accept the invitation to sleepover. So, although I wanted to get home to get some of my to-do list checked, I witnessed some other crack up moments. Tiring but funny.

That cracks me up too! :-) You described the Kosova hairdos perfectly!
