Sometimes I bemoan the fact that typical Albanian humor isn't "random." I know that it's a generational thing even in the States as not too many people a decades older than me find random humor funny, either. Yet...
Indeed, I wasn't too excited that my cell was stolen. Yet, if it weren't for that dreary, the cheery of finding an old text message in a friend's cell phone just wouldn't have happened. I tried to blog about this when it happened in June, but I couldn't remember it all.
Someone named Ryan was here for a few months. His name sounds like the Albanian word for region. Some friends were trying to explain this to him - for quite some time - to no avail. Finally, they asked me to text him what they were trying to communicate. Then they asked me to text "real translations" of his name. I laughed so hard at the time, I almost fell off the couch.
The first one they all agreed on was Baby Turkey.
The one I came up with was Ho Hum (based on a conversation).
Another said Cat's Husband.
Yet another said Tomato Head.
A forth said Hair Clip.
Another argued that the real translation was Panda with Ice Cream.
The one that stuck - Turtle with a Hundred Eggs. And this one stuck, indeed, to the point that most people were calling him Turtle his last month, and his goodbye sign read "We will miss you, Turtle." (yeah, I totally don't get where they came up with these - hence why it's so funny).
Good ol' random humor. Man, I love these particular people. What a hoot of a memory! I'm so glad the 8 or so text messages that made up this ridiculous communication sequence weren't erased.
