(I wrote this a week ago)
I had an interesting experience this morning. I was brushing my teeth at my colleagues’ house, and as I was leaning over spitting, I smelled something interesting. When I stood upright, I saw that my hair was on fire. No joke – there were flames probably 3 or 4 inches high around my bangs. I yelled and squacked and smacked my head a bunch. When I saw that I successfully put out the fire (on my head!), I looked down at my hand and saw soot and little globs of hair. I also saw the culprit - a tiny candle on the vanity (which was 8 inches lower than my head...i still don't know how it happened). Although I had been yelling the name of my colleague, she (and 2 others) didn’t hear me through the door. I walked to them after I put out the fire single-handedly (pun intended) – and they were talking about coffee flavorings or something equally interesting.
Then I washed my hair and all 3 were in the bathroom with me being all concerned and encouraging. When my hair was drenched and flopped forward, they said silly but well-meaning things like, “wow! Your hair looks great! Never better, beautiful!” I turned around and looked into the mirror and screamed (just for a joke – I thought it was funny). So, yes, I have even shorter hair than before.
The rest of the weekend was wonderful – walks, talks, good food, fun company. It was so lovely to be with Balkan family/colleagues. I’m so blessed (albeit slightly bald).
